Volley Doubles Ping-Pong Drill
This drill is a fun, fast-paced way to develop volley skills and doubles footwork. By playing within the mini-court and doubles alleys, players must work together using “ping-pong” rules where teammates alternate shots. The focus is on hitting volleys high and controlled while moving out of the way for a partner, making it a great warm-up for juniors or beginners.
Setup
- Two pairs of players (4 total)
- Use the mini-court plus doubles alleys as the playing area
- Tennis balls
Rules & Objectives
- Teams play cooperatively, hitting only volleys back and forth
- Players must alternate shots with their partner (ping-pong style)
- Each volley should be struck high with control to keep the rally alive
- After hitting, players move aside quickly to make space for their partner’s next shot
- Rally continues until a mistake occurs (ball bounces, net error, or player out of position)
Repetition
- Play for a set time (e.g., 5 minutes) and count longest rallies
- Progress to competitive scoring (first team to 7 points)
