Two-Ball Rally
This engaging drill challenges players to sharpen their visual and mental focus by rallying with two balls at once. The activity forces quick reactions, anticipation, and constant alertness, making it both fun and highly effective as a warm-up. It’s an excellent way to prepare players for matches where concentration and multitasking are critical. Adding a competitive element helps keep players motivated while training their ability to stay composed under pressure.
Setup
- Two players per court (pairs)
- Two tennis balls
- Standard court, starting in the service boxes or mid-court
Rules & Objectives
- Players begin rallying with one ball to establish rhythm
- Introduce a second ball into the rally so both balls are in play simultaneously
- Players must stay alert, tracking both balls while continuing to rally
- Continue rallying for a set duration (e.g., 2–3 minutes)
- If multiple pairs are on court, track the number of successful combined hits each pair achieves
Repetition
- Start close in mini-tennis (service boxes)
- Gradually move players back to mid-court, then to the baseline as they improve
- Add a competitive challenge by counting successful rallies—pairs can compete to see who achieves the longest rally
