Two-Ball Partner Coordination Drill

This drill improves hand-eye coordination and reaction time by requiring players to throw and catch balls simultaneously with a partner. By working on timing, control, and rhythm, players develop better coordination that translates directly to rallying and movement on court. Variations add progression through bouncing throws and side shuffling.

Setup

  • Two players stand facing each other, about 6–8 feet apart
  • Each player holds one ball

Rules & Objectives

  • Both players throw their ball at the same time:
  • Player A throws with the right hand to Player B’s left hand
  • Player B throws with the right hand to Player A’s left hand
  • Catch the incoming ball out of the air
  • Continue the sequence with simultaneous throws
  • Variation 1: Throw the ball to the ground so it bounces once before being caught
  • Variation 2: Perform the same drill while side shuffling together across the court, maintaining simultaneous throws and catches

Repetition

  • Run the drill for 2–3 minutes per set
  • Switch throwing hands to practice both sides
  • Increase difficulty by adding speed or distance

Coaching Points

  • Improves hand-eye coordination and reaction speed
