Tennis Rallying Drill For Advanced Junior Players
This crosscourt rally drill is designed to develop consistency, control, and tactical discipline in advanced players. By competing in crosscourt rallies with defined boundaries and a scoring system, players are challenged to maintain accuracy under pressure while minimizing errors. The game format adds intensity and focus, pushing players to sustain high-quality shots throughout extended exchanges. Setup
- Two pairs of players (four total) begin crosscourt rallies on both sides of the court
- Each rally must stay within the crosscourt half of the court, including the doubles alley
- One player starts each rally by feeding the ball into play
Rules & Objectives
- Players rally crosscourt, aiming to keep the ball within the designated area
- A player earns +1 point for winning a rally
- A player loses -2 points for hitting the ball into the net
- The same player feeds to start the next rally until they reach five points, then the other player takes over feeding
- Play continues until one player reaches 10 points
- Rotate to keep all players engaged after each round
Repetition
- Add a depth requirement: balls must land past the service line to count
- Penalize short shots into the service box by deducting a point
- Increase rally targets or adjust scoring to raise intensity
