Target Knockout Game
This lively group game blends accuracy, competition, and fun, making it perfect for kids’ tennis lessons. Players are divided into “hitters” and “targets,” with the goal of knocking out all targets by hitting them with the ball. The drill encourages precision, develops different shot types, and keeps kids engaged through a playful, game-like format.
Setup
- Split players into two teams: Targets and Hitters
- Targets spread out on one side of the court, standing upright
- Hitters line up behind the baseline on the opposite side
- Coach with a basket of balls to feed into play
Rules & Objectives
- The coach feeds a ball to the first hitter
- The hitter attempts to hit one of the targets on the opposite side
- If a target is hit, they sit down and are “out
- ”The hitter returns to the line, and the next hitter steps up
- Continue until all targets have been hit
- Teams switch roles so everyone experiences both hitting and defending
Repetition
- Vary the coach’s feeds (short, wide, high, low) to challenge hitters
- Require hitters to use specific strokes (e.g., only slice, only angled shots)
- Allow targets limited movement:Option 1: Targets must keep their feet planted but can lean to dodge
- Option 2: Targets can move around the court (harder version)
- Feed multiple balls per hitter (forehand + backhand attempts)
