Setup

  • 2 teams (3v2)
  • grid (25yds x 35yds)
  • cones to mark off area
  • cone goals (3-4yds)
  • pinnies
  • 10-20 min

Rules & Objectives

  • three attackers defend three goals and defenders one (two) goal(s)
  • two defenders rotate every 1-2 minutes or after every goal
  • attackers always start with the ball on a dead play

Variations

  • play 4v3
  • minimum of 3 touches for attackers
  • adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group if necessary

Coaching Points

  • Attacking: set up defender
  • Attacking: supporting angle and distance to ball
  • Attacking: support position behind ball
  • Attacking: support position in advance of the ball
  • Attacking: support position lateral to ball
  • Attacking: combination play (1-2, double pass, overlap, take over)
  • Attacking: create space for others
  • Attacking: attack space behind defense
  • Defending: angle and distance of cover
  • Defending: changing role of pressure and cover
  • Defending: visual and verbal communication
  • Defending: control and restraint
  • Defending: delay and channel
