Soccer Shooting Exercise # 3 Training Drill

Setup

  • 2 groups
  • 2 goalies
  • good supply of cones
  • 2 goals
  • 1 ball per player
  • 10-15 min

Rules & Objectives

  • 2 players dribble through their cone goals simultaneously
  • coach calls out which way to turn and shoot on goal
  • player is awarded a point if he scores
  • player who shoots first is awarded a point as well
  • player with most points wins

Variations

  • specify how players must shoot (left or right foot, inside or laces, high or low etc.)
  • limit number of touches
  • adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group

  • body mechanics and control of body

  • eye on ball
  • quality of preparation touch
  • contact surface
  • aggressive and positive mentality

  • placement versus power
  • positioning to gain an advantage
