Score Cone Rally Game

This fun game helps kids learn how to keep score in tennis while practicing consistency and rallying. By moving a ball closer to their side with each point won, players visually track progress toward victory, which makes scoring easy and exciting for beginners. The game reinforces focus, rally skills, and persistence.

Setup

  • Baseline rally setup (two kids playing points)
  • Cones placed in a line between the two players, with one ball starting in the middle cone
  • Foam or low-pressure balls recommended for younger players

Rules & Objectives

  • Players rally or play out a point starting from the baseline
  • The winner of the point moves the ball one cone closer to their side
  • If the opponent wins the next point, the ball moves one cone back toward them
  • The game continues until the ball reaches the last cone on one player’s side, declaring them the winner
  • Reset and play again with new partners if desired

Repetition

  • Adjust court size (e.g., service boxes only) for younger players
  • Play best-of-3 or best-of-5 rounds to extend the game
  • Increase difficulty by requiring a minimum number of rally shots before a point can be scored
  • Use multiple balls for larger groups, with pairs playing simultaneously

Coaching Points

  • Teaches kids how to keep score in a visual, easy-to-understand way
  • Reinforces rally consistency and point play
  • Builds competitiveness in a positive, structured format
