Scoopers Game

This fun game for kids 10 and under keeps players active while teaching creativity, coordination, and teamwork. Using foam or low-pressure balls, kids must keep the ball moving by scooping, rolling, or hitting it over the net. The point only ends once the ball completely stops, which encourages effort and quick reactions.

Setup

  • Foam or low-pressure balls
  • Mini or standard net (depending on age and space)
  • Small court area (service boxes or smaller for indoor play)
  • Players divided into two teams

Rules & Objectives

  • Coach feeds a ball into play from the side
  • Kids rally cooperatively or competitively, keeping the ball in motion at all times
  • Players may scoop, roll, dribble, or hit the ball to send it over the net
  • If the ball bounces multiple times but is still moving, it remains playable
  • The point ends only when the ball completely stops. The opposing team earns a point
  • Restart with a new feed from the coach

Repetition

  • Play games up to a set score (e.g., first to 7 points)
  • Restrict actions (e.g., must scoop before hitting)
  • Use larger or smaller spaces to adjust difficulty
  • Indoors: allow balls to rebound off side nets/walls to stay in play

Coaching Points

  • Develops agility, quick reactions, and persistence
  • Builds creativity with different ways to move the ball
  • Encourages teamwork and communication
  • Keeps kids highly engaged in a game-like format
