Robber Racket Ball Game
This fast-paced game is a great warm-up activity for kids, combining speed, strategy, and fun. Players race to collect balls from the center or “steal” them from other players’ rackets, aiming to be the first to collect three balls. The game encourages focus, quick footwork, and decision-making while keeping children fully engaged.
Setup
- Each child places their racket on the ground at equal distances from the center
- A pile of balls is placed in the middle of the court (number of balls = players × 2 + 2)
- Clear space for running safely
Rules & Objectives
- On the coach’s signal, players run to the center, pick up one ball, and place it on their racket
- Players may only carry one ball at a time
- After retrieving from the center, players can either take another from the middle or steal a ball from an opponent’s racket
- The first player to collect three balls on their racket wins the round
- Return balls to the center and repeat
Repetition
- Play multiple rounds with rotating winners
- Vary the number of balls needed to win (e.g., 2 for younger kids, 4 for older)
- Add a boundary (e.g., must stay inside the service boxes)
- Make it team-based, with pairs sharing a racket
Coaching Points
- Develops quickness and agility
- Sharpens awareness and strategy (deciding whether to steal or collect)
- Builds focus and competitiveness in a fun format
- Encourages energy, movement, and engagement at the start of practice
