No-Volley Service Box Game
This warm-up game is designed for kids to improve control, accuracy, and movement within a small playing area. Players rally inside the service boxes with the restriction that volleys are not allowed, encouraging creative play and awareness of shot placement.
Setup
- Two players face each other, positioned on the service line
- Play is restricted to the two service boxes
Rules & Objectives
- Players rally cooperatively or competitively within the service boxes
- Condition: No volleys are allowed—every shot must bounce before being returned
- Players try to create short or deep shots that force their opponent into difficult positions without breaking the no-volley rule
- Variation: Allow one volley per point for added flexibility
- Matches are typically played to 7 or 11 points
- Winners stay on court to face winners from other pairs, creating a tournament-style rotation
Repetition
- Play 5–10 minute games
- Add scoring rules (e.g., bonus point for hitting deep past the service line)
- Rotate partners after each match to keep groups moving
