No-Volley Service Box Game

This warm-up game is designed for kids to improve control, accuracy, and movement within a small playing area. Players rally inside the service boxes with the restriction that volleys are not allowed, encouraging creative play and awareness of shot placement.

Setup

  • Two players face each other, positioned on the service line
  • Play is restricted to the two service boxes

Rules & Objectives

  • Players rally cooperatively or competitively within the service boxes
  • Condition: No volleys are allowed—every shot must bounce before being returned
  • Players try to create short or deep shots that force their opponent into difficult positions without breaking the no-volley rule
  • Variation: Allow one volley per point for added flexibility
  • Matches are typically played to 7 or 11 points
  • Winners stay on court to face winners from other pairs, creating a tournament-style rotation

Repetition

  • Play 5–10 minute games
  • Add scoring rules (e.g., bonus point for hitting deep past the service line)
  • Rotate partners after each match to keep groups moving

Coaching Points
