Net Attack Scoring Game

This doubles drill sharpens reflexes, teamwork, and net play—essential skills for competitive doubles. By rewarding players for winning points at the net, it encourages pairs to move forward aggressively instead of staying back on the baseline. Frequent partner rotations also help players adapt to different styles, making the drill both competitive and cooperative.

Setup

  • Four players (two pairs) on a doubles court
  • Coach feeds underhand balls to start points
  • Scoring system:1 point for winning a rally from the baseline
  • 3 points for winning a rally at the net
  • Play games up to 11 points

Rules & Objectives

  • Both pairs start at the baseline
  • The coach feeds in an underhand ball to start the point
  • Players rally and play the point out
  • Award 1 point for baseline winners and 3 points for net winners
  • Switch partners after each game so players adapt to new pairings
  • Encourage pairs to move forward together when attacking

Repetition

  • Play multiple games, rotating partners after each to maximize variety
  • Progress by eliminating lobs—baseline players must hit passing shots or advance to the net
  • Advanced variation: start with a serve instead of a feed for match realism
  • Make the rule that points can only be scored at the net, forcing aggressive play

Coaching Points

  • Develops quick reflexes for doubles exchanges
  • Trains players to attack the net and finish points
  • Builds teamwork and synchronized movement
  • Improves adaptability by rotating partners
  • Teaches baseline players to use lobs effectively against advancing opponents
