Soccer Mini Goals # 1 Training Drill

Setup

  • in pairs
  • cones to mark off area
  • 4 cone goals (2-4yds)
  • 1 ball per pair
  • 10-20 min

Rules & Objectives

  • pair of players pass ball back and forth (two touch passing)
  • on coach's command player in possession tries to dribble through any of the cone goals
  • player with the ball cannot score on the same goal twice in a row
  • play 1v1 for appr. 2-3 minutes and then players resume specific partner activity as a rest period

Variations

  • each player is assigned two goals that he can score on
  • players juggle ball together
  • players can only dribble with right or left foot
  • players have to beat the defender with a move
  • vary number and/or size of cone goals
  • play with mini goals instead of cone goals
  • adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group if necessary
