Kids Team Rally Drill
This drill builds teamwork, basic rally skills, and motivation for young players. Two teams compete to clear a supply of balls by successfully hitting into the court. Each successful shot allows a player to retrieve a ball from the net area and pass it to the next teammate. The first team to collect all their balls wins, encouraging both accuracy and consistency.
Setup
- Divide players into two teams of three (or adjust based on group size)
- Place a basket of balls at the net on each side, with about 10 balls per team
- Players line up behind the baseline in order
Rules & Objectives
- The first player from each team takes a ball from the basket and self-feeds it
- The player attempts to hit the ball into the opponent’s court
- If the shot lands in, the player runs to the net, retrieves one ball, and hands it to the next teammate in line
- If the shot misses, the player returns to the line without retrieving a ball
- The next player in line repeats the process
- Play continues until one team has retrieved all its balls
Repetition
- Run several rounds, switching forehands and backhands for each team
- Change feeding style: allow self-feed or have the coach feed balls
- Adjust ball count or team size depending on player age and ability
Coaching Points
- Reinforces proper technique on forehands and backhands
- Encourages accuracy and consistency when hitting into the court
- Builds teamwork and competitive motivation in a fun format
