Island Hopping Balance Game
This warm-up game is perfect for young players 10 and under, helping them develop balance, coordination, and leg strength. By hopping from spot to spot and regaining balance before the next jump, kids learn control and stability—essential foundations for movement in tennis. It’s simple, effective, and easily adapted to different skill levels.
Setup
- Several throw-down spots or flat markers arranged in a line or pattern
- Players lined up in a single file behind the first spot
- Clear space for safe hopping and landing
Rules & Objectives
- Players take turns hopping from spot to spot on one leg
- Each time they land, they must pause briefly to regain balance before moving on
- After completing the course, players return to the line for another turn
- Continue until all players have practiced multiple rounds
Repetition
- Start with left-leg hops, then repeat with right-leg hops
- Add two-footed jumps for variation
- Alternate left-right foot hops across the course
- Rearrange the spots into different patterns (zig-zag, circle, wider spacing) for variety
