Depth and Placement Rally Drill
This cooperative rally drill develops consistency, depth, and placement while adding a scoring element that challenges both focus and decision-making. Players track scores while sustaining rallies, forcing them to stay engaged mentally and physically throughout the drill.
Setup
- Two players start at the baseline
- Optional: run the same drill with another pair on the opposite half of the court
Rules & Objectives
- Players rally cooperatively from the baseline
- Scoring system:
- Shot landing past the service line = 2 points
- Shot landing in the service box = 1 point
- Players must call out their opponent’s score after each rally shot
- Rally continues as long as players keep the ball in play
Repetition
- Run rallies for set time periods (3–5 minutes) before switching pairs
- Progression 1: Make it competitive by having pairs add scores together and compare totals with other groups
- Progression 2: Encourage varying spin and angle to increase difficulty

- Reinforces depth and accuracy in groundstrokes
- Trains mental focus by combining scorekeeping with shot execution
