Baseline Target Zone Challenge
This drill helps players sharpen their baseline consistency, accuracy, and footwork while adding a competitive element. By aiming for a designated target zone, players learn to keep shots deep and controlled, forcing opponents onto the defensive. The game-like scoring keeps the drill engaging for both kids and adults.
Setup
- Two players rallying down the line on half of the court
- Target zone marked between the service line and baseline (use cones, markers, or chalk)
- One ball in play
Rules & Objectives
- Players rally down the line, keeping the ball within their half of the court
- Each shot that lands in the designated target zone scores one point
- Rally continues until an error occurs, then restart the sequence
- After a set period of time, compare scores between pairs to add competition
Repetition
- Add a second target zone on the opposite side for variety
- Adjust zone size: smaller for advanced players, larger for beginners
- Play crosscourt rallies with the same scoring system
- Restrict rallies to forehands only, backhands only, or alternate forehand/backhand each shot
