Tennis Topspin

This drill contrasts topspin and slice, helping players understand the strengths and challenges of each shot while developing control and consistency. One side of the court is restricted to hitting only topspin, while the other side is limited to slice. This forces players to adapt to different ball trajectories and spin effects, improving timing, footwork, and tactical awareness. As the rally continues, players learn how to maintain depth and rhythm against contrasting styles, a skill that becomes essential in competitive play.

Setup

  • Two players on each side of the court (doubles setup)
  • Coach feeds the first ball from the net post to begin the rally
  • One team is restricted to topspin only, the other to slice only

Rules & Objectives

  • Players on one side may only hit topspin shots
  • Players on the other side may only hit slice shots
