Inside-Out Forehand Attack Drill
This drill develops the inside-out forehand as a strong opening shot to take control of a rally. Players begin with a specific target zone, forcing them to move quickly around the ball and direct the forehand with purpose. By combining the feed with immediate point play, the drill trains both technique and tactical execution. Practicing this pattern repeatedly builds confidence in using the forehand as an aggressive weapon to pressure opponents early in the rally.
Setup
- A cone is placed as a starting marker for the hitter
- A target zone is designated on the opposite side of the court
- One player prepares to receive in the target zone while another begins as the hitter
- The coach stands ready to feed the first ball
Rules & Objectives
- The hitter starts from the cone, runs around the incoming ball, and strikes an inside-out forehand toward the target zone
- After the opening forehand, players immediately play out the point
- Continue for three points, then switch roles so the next player becomes the hitter
- Alternate sides and target zones as needed to balance practice
- Players should emphasize forehand footwork, positioning, and power when creating the inside-out angle
Repetition
- Play three-point sequences before rotating roles
- Target zones may be shifted to challenge precision
- Run the drill from either side of the court, adapting for right- or left-handed players
Coaching Points
- Builds confidence in the inside-out forehand as an opening shot
- Reinforces quick footwork and recovery after running around the ball
- Trains players to combine aggressive shot selection with immediate point play
- Helps develop tactical awareness by pressuring opponents early in rallies
