Four-Grid Volley Game
This fun, cooperative game helps players improve volley technique, ball tracking, and teamwork. With the court divided into four grids, players must sustain rallies by keeping the ball within their assigned areas before sending it across the net. It encourages control, communication, and accuracy while keeping the drill engaging for groups.
Setup
- Divide the court into four grids (two on each side of the net)
- One player in each grid (4 players total)
- Coach or pro feeds the first ball into play
- Tennis balls and optional cones to mark grids
Rules & Objectives
- Pro feeds a ball to start the rally
- Players must hit to their partner within the same side before sending the ball across the net
- On each side, the receiving player returns the ball to their teammate before sending it back across
- The ball must land in a grid; if not, the rally ends
- Aim for at least four clean exchanges over the net before rotating
- After several rallies, rotate players to new grid positions
Repetition
- Continue until each player has played in all grid positions
- Increase rally goals (e.g., minimum of 6–8 exchanges)
- Add scoring: 1 point per successful rally past 4 shots
- For advanced players, restrict to volleys only (no bounces)
Coaching Points
- Builds control and consistency on volleys
- Reinforces teamwork and communication
- Sharpens ball-tracking skills
- Keeps players engaged in a cooperative, game-like setting
