Depth-Scoring Rally Game
This drill trains consistency and depth by awarding points based on shot placement. Players rally cooperatively while keeping track of scores, reinforcing the importance of hitting deeper balls that pressure opponents.
Setup
- Two players positioned at opposite baselines
- Play can be restricted to half court if more players are present (pairs rotate in)
- One player begins each point with a drop hit
Rules & Objectives
- Player A starts the rally with a drop hit
- Scoring system:
- Ball lands anywhere in the court = 1 point
- Ball lands on or beyond the service line = 2 points
- Players must call out their score immediately after earning points
- Rally continues until an error
- Play until one player reaches 21 points
- Switch the player who initiates the point after each round
Repetition
- Beginner version: Allow all shots into the court to score at least 1 point
- Advanced version:
- Service box = 0 points
- Mid-court (¾ court) = 1 point
- Behind service line = 2 points
- Limit play to half court for small groups and rotate in additional players
