Crosscourt vs. Down-the-Line Rally Drill
This workout drill emphasizes consistency, directional control, and mental focus by assigning players specific rally patterns. One player is restricted to hitting down the line while the other is limited to crosscourt, creating a structured rhythm that demands accuracy and patience. The challenge comes from extending the rally as long as possible without errors, making it both physically and mentally demanding. By tracking rally length, players stay motivated to improve their consistency over time.
Setup
- Two players begin on opposite baselines
- One player is designated to hit down the line only
- The other player is restricted to crosscourt shots only
Rules & Objectives

- Players rally following their restrictions: one hitting down the line, the other crosscourt
- The rally must last a minimum of four shots before it counts
- Players attempt to extend the rally to five, six, or more consecutive shots
- After several rounds, switch roles so each player practices both directions
