3 vs 3 Net Reflex Game

This drill is designed for junior players to improve net reflexes, reaction time, and volley accuracy while also building baseline consistency. With three players per side (two at the baseline and one at the net), the game encourages teamwork and net play. Rotating positions ensures all players practice both offensive and defensive roles, making it a fun and balanced group exercise.

Setup

  • 6 players total (3 per side)
  • Two players positioned at the baseline, one positioned at the net, on each side
  • Use the entire doubles court
  • Start points with a drop-hit from the baseline (no serve)

Rules & Objectives

  • A baseline player begins the rally with a drop-hit to the opposing side
  • Players rally freely, with the net player encouraged to intercept balls and play volleys whenever possible
  • Points are played out using the full doubles court
  • After each point, all players rotate clockwise to the next position
  • Continue until all players have had multiple turns in each role

Repetition

  • Play to a set score (e.g., first team to 11 points)
  • Add restrictions, such as no lobs allowed, to emphasize quick exchanges
  • Add conditions: baseline players must keep shots deep, or net players must attempt at least one volley per point
  • For advanced juniors, allow only crosscourt play or restrict certain shots to increase focus
