Soccer Lose Your Shadow # 2 Training Drill

Setup

  • in pairs
  • grid (20yds x 30yds)
  • cones to mark off area
  • 1 ball per pair
  • 5-10 min

Rules & Objectives

  • each pair decides on a leader and shadow
  • players face each other
  • leader dribbles and tries to get his partner off balance by doing moves, fakes, faints etc.
  • shadow player without the ball moves sideways and backwards trying to keep same distance (he does not try to
  • tackle the ball!)
  • on coach's command players freeze and the shadow must be within arms length (one point for the leader if the
  • shadow can't touch him otherwise one point for the follower)
  • switch roles after 1-2 minutes
  • players compare scores after 2(4) rounds

Variations

  • shadow dribbles a ball as well
  • switch partners every other round
  • adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group if necessary
